How to recover a deleted JIRA issue item from the Portfolio for JIRA screen?

I removed an Epic that aligns to an existing initiative and realized I couldn't easily recover it...what is the best way to recover an epic or user story when removed?

Did you commit your changes in portfolio?

If you haven't committed the changes, you should be able to revert them. Read this documentation to learn more.
