Welcome Wednesday: New Year, New Things to Explore!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I'm sure everyone is talking about New Year's resolutions right now. I'm going to take a different spin on the question and ask you what you are planning to explore or learn this year. It could be New features within an Atlassian product you are currently using, a new product that has been released or is in beta. Or, maybe you are looking to learn a new skill such as a different programming language.

Personally, I'm looking to learn more about ReactJS and using it with Atlassian Forge. At my company a number of the requests coming in leave me feeling that we are going to need to start building some of our own customizations. Also, who knows, maybe I’ll consider participating in Codegeist 2024?

I love this spin on resolutions. I recently took on a new position at work, so I know my year will include lots of learning and growth around the new role. I'd like to spend some time this month determining what that might look like and potentially any conferences I'd like to attend!

I have spent the last 9 months documenting our application in Confluence Free plan. I'm getting to a stage where we will roll it out to the rest of the company for use, so this year we will be moving to Standard, and I am looking forward to learning how to set up a new space for the Published (reviewed and approved) content that the rest of the company will use, while maintaining my Draft space for future updates. I may need to talk my boss into purchasing a 3rd-party app in the Marketplace.

Late last year I was asked by my manager to mentor two Product Owners in my organization that are in need of some guidance. I am going to learn how to be an effective mentor and try my hand at mentoring, which I think will be a good challenge for me. I also plan to start an Atlassian Cert this year, but not sure which one yet.

Personally I don't look at the date on the calendar to make any significant changes in my personal or professional life. I'm always trying to be a better version of me than yesterday's episode.

I have some longer term goals personally that I have been working towards, although an illness that hit me as 2023 ended and 2024 began has me a bit down and out right now - so not much progress there.

Atlassian Community wise I hope to exceed my production levels from last year and hit my goal of one ACE event outside of my home base (ACE NYC for the win!) each quarter. I booked my tickets to Toronto for the Unleash event as my Q1 goal. My next goal is seeing you in person onsite!

I am hoping to spend some time getting some ACE events set up here in Dubai. Especially hopefully about getting some Atlassians here in person for the events.

I am actually looking forward to taking a Project Management course. For the longest time, I haven't known where I want to take my career as I'm about to turn 30, but taking this course and learning how to run projects more formally will maybe help me figure out what I want to do. If not, it's at least a tremendous extra skill to pick up that I'm sure will help me in my career with Atlassian.
