Data residency for Connect Apps: Now generally available

Hi all!

As you may know, we released data residency for Connect apps in beta a while back. I am pleased to share that data residency is now generally available for all Connect apps, offering one more way teams like yours can securely manage your data!

Maintaining control over your data is crucial for many teams, which is why we are excited to expand Atlassian's data residency offerings to our Marketplace Partners. Our commitment to protecting your data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering trust with your customers is stronger than ever.

Now, data residency for Connect-hosted apps is generally available in all Atlassian-supported regions, including the US, EU, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Canada, Japan, South Korea, India, Switzerland, and the UK. This enhancement allows app developers to continue building apps with built-in data residency and create customizations that move and store data in the same locations as the host product.

Note: Not all apps, and not even all Connect apps, will immediately support data residency. Apps that are built on Connect but don't use exclusively hosted storage for in-scope data will still need to independently invest in data residency.

Hi @Lavanya Tejasvani ,

Thank you for the good news and great job.

I have 3 queries:

  1. Please confirm if all relevant connect marketplace apps are updated with this information, as my recent check found that some apps (particularly Cloud Fortified) did not have this updated information.
  2. Is bringing these apps into BYOK's scope on the short-term roadmap?
  3. We seek a differentiation label for Connect, Connect Ingress, and Forge apps. This would help us choose the right app with related compliance values.

Hey @Amar Khot

To your first and third queries, Data Residency is currently available to all Connect and Forge Native apps to adopt. It is up to the app developer to decide if they wish to support data residency, and which regions they wish to support.

You can view all information related to data residency for an app in the privacy and security tab on the apps marketplace listing. This should give you the information necessary to make an informed decision on which app meet your privacy and security requirements. The information regarding data residency is at the top of the form.

If the privacy and security tab doesn't answer all your questions, we suggest getting in touch with the developer to ensure you get all the information required to make an informed decision.

At this time, we are not looking to label apps on the marketplace by the platform they're built on.

To your second query, there is currently no plan to support BYOK on Connect.

Thanks,
Daniel Reed.
