One of my colleagues has been trying to add a new email address to his current account, and he is not able to receive any confirmation message from Trello...

Right now, Trello can accept email addresses up to 43 characters in length.
If your colleague's email address is shorter than that and still isn't being received, could you have him try the troubleshooting steps listed here: http://help.trello.com/article/716-not-receiving-confirmation-emails-or-password-reset-emails ?
