I apparently lost the ability to make comments on cards in my Trello Board

I have been using Trello to track project status on various projects for about a year now.. I was testing the ability to use custom fields to add various status details such as 7 Keys to Success.  When I did this, I found that we lost the ability to make comments on the cards as we do for weekly management reporting.  I realize this sounds like a rather generic question but after searching on the Trello support board, I only found 1 relevant article which referenced adding a comment to the "back of a card" (which I didn't quite understand) and I couldn't find any options on the card to add a comment.. Any assistance or suggestions?

That’s odd. Normally board members should be able to comment unless Comments are disabled in the board settings. Please make sure Comments are enabled on that board by following this article:
