How does Trello Premium pricing work for each member, and adding clients to a Workspace?

Sarah Moss July 1, 2022

Hi,

My company is looking into possibly going with Trello Premium for some project management. What I'm a bit confused about is how the pricing and membership works.

Say there's 4 of us (including myself) who will be admins for a Workspace, which will be named after the client (as an example "Accounting Firm"). Under that "Accounting Firm" Workspace, we'd have multiple boards, each board representing a different project that the client requested. We need to be able to add our client contact to each board, so they can leave comments, upload attachments, and check off tasks as needed.

1) For the 4 admins/members, would the cost be $10 per user a month? So 40 a month = $480 for the year? Or is there a way around not having to pay for each member?

2) Would we have to pay an extra $10/month to add the client to the Workspace so they can access and view all the different boards that'll go under that project? Is there a way we could add the same guest to more than one board without having to pay extra, if that's the case?

Hi @Sarah Moss

Welcome to community!

So when I last used Trello the way it worked was all users are charged if they work on team boards. if users in your org create their own personal board and aren't on the shared team board their user wouldn't be charged

For the clients you can share a view only version of the board and observers aren't charged. But if you need to grant access outside of observing then you are charged. This may have changed but I do not believe it has

Hey @Clark Everson - sorry, that's slightly incorrect. Observers will be charged if you add an Observer to two or more boards in the workspace. They're still a multi-board guest and therefore billable.

Hey @Sarah Moss - welcome to the Community!

All boards created in Trello need to sit in a workspace. Upgrading a Workspace is the primary way of upgrading to a paid plan in Trello, and free workspaces can only have a maximum of ten boards open at a time. When you upgrade to Standard or Premium, all users that are considered billable within your workspace will go towards your monthly or annual bill.

Billable users in Standard and Premium are the following:

  • Users that have been added directly to the upgraded workspace
  • Multi-board guests: users that have been added to two or more boards in the upgraded workspace

Single-board guests - users that have been added to one board in the workspace - are not considered billable users. You can read more about how billing works with Standard and Premium here: https://help.trello.com/article/855-how-billing-works-with-trello-business-class

If you have four workspace members, then you'll need to pay for four users plus any multi-board guests you have. You will get charged also for any additional workspace members you add to the workspace you upgrade.
