How do I create labels for the entire workspace?

Jen Frater July 9, 2024

I love the labels I have for one of my boards and I'd like to have the same ones on all my boards.

Hi Jen,

Welcome to the community!

Unfortunately, Trello doesn't have a workspace-level label system. Labels in Trello are specific to the boards they're created on.

However, here are a couple of workarounds to help you manage this:

1. Manual Duplication (Quickest):

  • Create a Template Board: If you have a board with the ideal set of labels, consider making it a template. This will at least give you a starting point for new boards.
  • Copy Labels: When you create a new board (or from an existing one), you can manually add the same labels. It's a bit repetitive, but it gets the job done.

2. Trello Power-Ups (For More Automation):

  • Explore the Power-Ups Directory: Trello has a variety of Power-Ups (integrations) that might offer more advanced label management. Search for terms like "labels," "copy," or "sync" in the directory.
  • Caveat: Power-Ups with the exact functionality you need might not be available, especially on the free plan.

I hope this helps!

Another dumb solution (is it dumb if it works though hmm)

If you have your labels set up perfectly on one of your boards. Create a new card. Attach ALL the labels. Copy that card in to every other board you want that label in. Delete the card(s)

When a card with a certain label gets added to a board without those labels, that board gains those labels automatically.

This can sometimes get annoying when you copy over a card but didn't mean to copy over the labels (remove the labels first!). Or when you want to tweak your perfect set of labels, you have to go through all your boards and manually tweak them one by one. But its a quick and dirty way of just exporting labels.

I love a good work-around! Thanks :-)
