Auto sort Trello cards in Chrome and iOS app

Jill Osborne May 20, 2018

I just started using Trello and tried to turn on auto-sorting of cards within boards, in Chrome and in the iOS app. I thought this would be straightforward as it's pretty basic functionality. I want to sort the cards within some boards by due date and others alphabetically by card title.

Seems you can't do this in the app at all, and in Chrome only by using the Ultimello plugin - which does work but the sorted order of cards doesn't replicate to the display in the iOS app.

Am I missing something here? This should be easy to do. Thanks!

Hey Jill

Using the Chrome Extension will only change the view for Chrome your Chrome Browser that is running the extension.

For the cards to sort and be replicated in the iOS app, you can incorporate Butlerbot automation on each of the boards you want to sort.

To add custom automation using Butlerbot, follow these steps:

1) Add Butlerbot to your board here: https://www.butlerfortrello.com/dashboard.html
-- A new list will be created titled "Butler"
2) You'll add your commands as a new card to the Butler list, each command being a new card in that list

First, add a card with the title For each list, sort the list by title  This will sort all of your lists that exist. Once the sorting is complete, you can remove this card because you won't need it again.  You won't need it again because the next command will keep your lists sorted every time you add a new card. That command is  when a card is added to list "{*}", sort the list by title.

If you're sorting by due date, however, you don't need Butler. You can just sort those on your list options.

Hi Matthew, thanks for your response. All of that worked perfectly, except that after adding a new card, you need to re-sort the cards in the browser by due date, in order for the new sort order to appear in the app. It would be nice if that happened automatically. Butler does that when sorting by title.
