A way to stop a Automation when I have a certain number of Cards.

TheLaoring July 1, 2021

We have a system where we have tasks, and those tasks are placed in cards. Those cards get added with vague labels, and If we want to do one of those tasks, We can join them and move it to the Progress list. I want to try out the butler, but the butler doesn't stop when I have 4 or more cards(3 are the max tasks you can have); I am afraid to leave it overnight, joining all the cards at once.

I'm here to ask if there's a way to stop the automation when I have the max cards, which are 3.

@TheLaoring Perhaps the solution is to create a card button called "Accept Responsibility" that will add the member to the card and move it to In Progress, that way the person clicking it will know they have the maximum.

I don't think there is any way in Butler to check whether or not the person already has 3 cards, but you could do it with this BenkoBot function:

You can install this function in BenkoBot using the link on this card:

You will have the chance to review the code after putting in your API key/token.

You can see other examples on that board of how you can use BenkoBot to automate Trello (with more to come!)
