Why aren't all notifications sent to all subscribers at the same time?

We have 2663 subscribers. During an incident they received the notification in staggered intervals, several minutes apart. I would like to know why.

Please a quick answer would be nice.

Hey Sandra, 

I know that you and I had a ticket covering exactly this, but I'll post the answer here for posterity. 

Statuspage can vendor hundreds to thousands of notifications at once, depending on system load at the time. Once the messages have been vendored our mail vendors will send out the notifications. 

Once that message leaves our we no longer control the path of the message. We could send emails to everyone in the same office, and there would probably still be some difference in delivery times since email can sometimes take a circuitous route to finally reach its destination. 

Hopefully this helps anyone else asking this question in the future!
