Limit to resubscribe phone number?


I am trying to implement API calls to create and delete a phone number subscriber.

During my tests, with my own phone number, I found that if I subscribe to my phone number with a page_access_user and component_ids, then do an unsubscribe, then wait 15 minutes, and then subscribe again with the same phone number, I get this message:

 409 Conflict, {"error":["The email, phone information, or endpoint provided is already subscribed to updates."]}

If I try again a day later it works again.

I was wondering what limit exists on this functionality? What is the amount of time I need to be unsubscribed before I can subscribe again?

Understand that you found out there seems to be a restriction period of resubscription of SMS.

I can replicate the same behavior on my end either it's directly on the public Statuspage or by manually adding the same number to the SMS Subscribers List on the Admin page.

I have created a bug ticket, STATUS-336, on your behalf.

Unfortunately, the Bug ticket doesn't provide public access to our customers, we will keep you posted.

Thank you! Please let me know if there's any progress on this ticket.

In the mean while, I did a bit more testing and from what I can see, the restriction period is close to, or exactly, 24 hours. Maybe that helps your team in finding the issue.

Our development team has confirmed that this is intended behavior, instead of a bug; we rate limit SMS opt-in confirmations for the same phone number to once every 24 hours to prevent SMS abuse; the user can only re-subscribe the same number after 24 hours has passed, to prevent malicious users from spamming SMS opt-in confirmations to the same number repeatedly by unsubscribing and resubscribing that number over and over again.
