I have a long list of cities and I need to add a column next to it with a corresponding numeric code. For example:

New York4013-601

Vancouver4013-602

Hong Kong4013-603

I have over 900 rows, with 85 difference cities. I typically add the numeric code manually, but I don't usually have this many rows. Is there a way I can have it recognize the text and add the code?

Thank you in advance for saving me hours of work.

If you have a list 85 cities and their code you can use vlookup macro of excel . BTW this is not the right place to ask such questions :) you should ask it to the MS office forum/support .
