New in JSM - Trying to implement request for vacations with JSM

Alejandra Martin December 30, 2024

Hi. My name is Alejandra, I have used Jira with team-managed project since three years.

Now I activate free trial period for JSM to analyze  how to implement functionality for  request for vacation of our consultants.

We need to implement this functionality

Consultant request vacation

Workflow send the request to approved based in a hierarchy (two levels)

The approvers approval

Visualice all the request for vacations and dates in a calendar.

Hi @Alejandra Martin , thanks for your question.

In JSM, you should be able to set up a simple form that your consultants can fill in from your customer portal

Then, you just need to configure a workflow with the approvals using a guide like this one https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/set-up-approvals/ .

Please have a go at setting up the project, form and workflow on your own. If you get stuck on anything, let us know how we can help.

Best wishes

Hi Valerie. Best wishes for you!

Another question is that its necesarie to requester set the approver? We need to define approvers in some other place and JIRA direct the request to the correspondent approver automatically based in that definitions.

Best regards!

Alejandra

Hi @Alejandra Martin

To add to Valerie's answer: Add 2 date fields like Vacation start/Vacation end to your tickets; these can be used to populate a calendar view given that each request is just for 1 vacation.

For approvers you're best off with defining them in Assets, a functionality that comes with JSM. Or you use the organization feature, but your requirements are a bit sparse :)
