Load failed for reason: Missing a FieldLayoutItem for FieldLayout XXX Field Configuration

Fleming Chiu November 9, 2015

Hi there,

We know our project configurator is EOL (JIRA 5.2.11 vs 1.6 project configurator)

We have a developing JIRA stance which is imported from production by project configurator.

Add new custom field in developing environment then do export/import into production, but error occurred!

Load failed for reason: Missing a FieldLayoutItem for FieldLayout XXXX Field Configuration and field com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.customfieldtypes:textfield: new_field_name

Any suggestion would be appreciated!

Hi Fleming,

It is a pity you are using version 1.6, as version 1.8 included a change that would avoid these problems. Fortunately, the workaround is quite straightforward. You can choose one of:

  • Create a custom field with type "com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.customfieldtypes:textfield" and name "new_field_name" before the import in the producton environment. It does not matter if this custom field is empty and without any configuration, as the import will set it with the desired configuration from the XML file.
  • Run the import in two phases, as explained here, so that custom fields are imported in the first phase and field configurations in the second. For example, import in the first step everything but "Field configurations", "Field configuraton schemes" and "Project (changes)". Import those three types in the second stage.

I hope this will fix the problem.

Best regards!
