Hide epic columns in user story map

When I press the hide button (eye icon) in the Epic link list, the JIRA issues linked to this epic are hidden, but the Epic issue itself is not hidden. How can I also hide the entire epic? In our project we have many epics, and we want to be able to hide a few of them to have a better overview and not be forced to scroll horizontally when planning specific epics.

the filters only can be applied for stories but you can use a jql to hide certain epics. create a map and do not select a project but enter a jql instead.
