Clone issue with sub-tasks from button

We have an issue with sub-tasks that is used as a template to be cloned.

We want to be able to clone the parent issue with sub-tasks from a button not associated with the workflow/post-function. The issue links should not be created.

Can I create another type of object, maybe a rest end point, that calls the cloning functionality?

In answer to your question, you absolutely can trigger it from a custom REST endpoint.

If you wanted a button for it, you could also use a web fragment to crate a button that performed this action https://scriptrunner.adaptavist.com/latest/jira/CustomisingUI.html

I would recommend using the built-in listener that we have for this, then just have your desired mechanism trigger a custom event that this listener listens for, to perform the action. There is a good answer regarding this here
