Bonfire duplicate fields created

After using Bonfire for a few months and going through a couple upgrades, we now notice some duplicate fields. When these first started to appear we don't know.

How should we handle this:

1) How do we determine which ones to delete?

2) How to prevent this from happening?

I'm experiencing the same problem (although not to the extent you are); I've added an attachment and comment to your issue BON-1377.
