Web-Panel alternative for versions earlier than jira 4.4?

I'm trying to make my plugin available to earlier versions. I have a section of functionality in my plugin that add a chunk of content via a Web-Panel to location="atl.jira.view.issue.left.context" on an Issue.

It was not showing up in versions before 4.4 and finally noticed web-panel was introduced in 4.4. How would content have been added bvefore 4.4? Are Web-tiems and Web0-Sections my only option? I pretty much need to add a HTML form and some dynamic text into the Issue page if possible.

I also looked at Issue Tab Panel but that does not look like a viable option.

Hi Steve

I think before 4.4 you would basically have to do this with a js hack. Create a web-resource using the jira.view.issue context and create a js to inject your html into the issue view.
