Project Specific Select Field - adding new context

Tim Thompson January 26, 2016

Do you have to add new context for every project specific select field and all projects? We have 1000s of projects and so would like any new project specific field to be available to all projects as well as new projects as they are created without added JIRA admin effort.

There are different custom field types provided by Project Specific Select Field plugin. Depending on which custom field type you choose, the situation is different

  • For "Project Specific Select Field (simple)" there is no need to create a custom field context for each project. It is automatically setup in this way. But this type has some limitations: Because it is internally based on a text field, multi-select is not possible, it cannot be used in Pie Chart, Issue Statistics and Two-Dimentional Filter Statistics gadgets and does not support auto-complete and filter criteria selection in JIRA search
  • With custom field type "Project Specific Select Field" and "Project Specific Multi Select Field" all the above is possible, but then you need to create a custom field context per project because it is internally based on a select field.

Because I understand that creating a custom field context per project is anoying for JIRA installations with hundreds of projects like in your case and other customers, I am currently developing a batch mechanism to create custom field context for lots of projects in one click. This feature will also be available via REST API.

If this new batch feature is interesting for you, you can participate in beta testing and also giving feedback to concepts and user interface, so that it best match to your requirements. Would be great to work together with you!

Best regards, Holger
