Can you purchase and enable new Jira apps if your Jira maintenance is expired?

Hi,

 

We are considering whether to renew our maintenance subscription on Jira Core Server.

One thing we need to consider is:

If we let the maintenance expire, can we still install completely new, (never used before) plugin/apps for Jira Core server (or Confluence for that matter)

In other words: Do all/some apps require a current and active maintenance contract to install?

You need a current license to install new apps.  With that being said it used to be possible through a work around that can be found here:  https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Plugin-Install-after-Licence-expired/qaq-p/1488

I would highly recommend against it though because a lot could go wrong and there is good reason to not make any changes to your instance once your license / support has expired.  Installing the app could break your instance or corrupt your DB.  Many of the app updates that occur are to fix security issues in addition to functional issues.  

The best thing would be to purchase a new license and then purchase the app.

Hi @thijsdevries ,

I'd like to just add some additional information with respect to our announced Server licensing change, which took effect last week. This information is documented on our FAQ page about Server license changes.

  • Some apps that we've bundled with Data Center (for Jira, this means Insight and Advanced Roadmaps) will no longer be available for new licensing on Server
  • For other marketplace apps (the ones that aren't Advanced Roadmaps or Insight), existing server customers will be able to continue purchasing apps until February 2, 2023 PT. Ongoing app renewals are expected to be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server products' end of support date.
