Is it possible to set access control to Service Desk and validate the customers against an external source (e.g. database where we maintain our master list of customers)?
You can restrict access to certain groups of people. This link has more information. Basically you can allow everyone to raise requests, you can allow only people with JIRA accounts to add, or you can authenticate against a list (which is managed by JIRA). I don't know that you can do it against a DB.
