Why can't my colleague assign issues to any other users?

A number of my colleagues recently stopped being able to assign issues to any other users. When they start typing a user name, it appears in the drop-down. When they select the username, they get an error message "user does not exist". Other users do not have this problem. They are using IE8.

It was indeed a known issue, but it's been resolved now. :)

I think this is a known issue in onDemand, with IE8. Don't remember the issue key.

People were able to try again and it went through. Other browsers were working fine.

Trouble is, it's a client and they can only use IE8. Will investigate the known issue. Thanks.
