Using /genie oncall, can I add myself to a specific rotation?

Kailey Lampert October 7, 2024

Using `/genie oncall me <time> for <team>` is very handy when I want to be able to quickly add myself during a total gap in coverage.

However, if someone else is currently on-call, this command will trample over that. Is there a way with the slash-command to specify a rotation? For example, add myself as "backup" while leaving "primary" alone.

Hi @Kailey Lampert

Although the /genie oncall slash command in Jira offers quick actions, it doesn't allow direct self-addition to specific rotations due to its limited granularity. To join a rotation, consider the below option.

You can log into the Opsgenie web interface, navigate to the relevant schedule, and add an override for the desired rotation. This workaround enables you to join the rotation as needed – more help can be referenced here - Override an on-call schedule | Opsgenie | Atlassian Support

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
