Initiative Level Hierarchy for Next-Gen projects

Compared to standard projects, looking to input an initiative level hierarchy. The way that next-gen displays issues, the epic level is the roadmap and your kanban/scrum boards shows the next level down. Is this possible, or another limitation of next-gen?

I know this can be achieved with Portfolio in standard projects.

The absence of configurable/viewable hierarchy continues to be JIRA's biggest stumbling block and the bane of existence for every PM, Scrum Master, and Agile practitioner leveraging the product for any scaled projects beyond the single-team level. Atlassian, please FIX IT (since 2009).
