How to create Issues from the Epic Screen but in a different Project

Gowtam Kamath June 16, 2021

Hi Community,

Seeking help from the experts here.

Our Eng teams are split as say Frontend, Backend and Services. They have 1 scrum project each in Jira.

We have created a common Kanban Project to house all Epics (1 Epic per Product feature).

We want the ability to create stories across these 3 Scrum Jira projects for a given Epic(seperate project).  We were able to set it up using Boards based on filters. However, the experience of creating stories within in Epic is painful.

When we try to 'Create an issue' in the Epic screen, it forces us to create the stories in the Same project to which the Epics belong but not in different projects. Is there a way to create a story within an Epic (From the Epic screen) but in a different Jira project?

As a workaround, we are creating stories in the Scrum project and updating the Epics link and people hate it :) Any suggestion is wecome!

Thanks in advance,

Gowtam Kamath

No. You need to create the story in the desired project and then set the epic link.

Thank you @Jack Brickey . That's our work around today and we are not going to continue it.
