How to create Aging Report in JIRA

Vaibhav Patki March 26, 2021

I need to generate a report which will show the time it took to resolve defects for a project by development team. Is there a way to create this type of report. Maybe something similar that will help me get this data.

Did you try the Control char with a filter to select only the defects?

Hi @Vaibhav Patki

Adding onto what @carlos_marin suggests, if you find the built-in Control Chart doesn't have what you need *and* you do not want to purchase an add-on...

You may build your own measures using custom fields and automation rules.  The added benefits of that approach are: (1) you know what is being measured, and (2) the stored custom fields allow use with filters and often on dashboards.

Best regards,

Bill

Hello @Vaibhav Patki

You can try Time in Status for Jira Cloud add-on developed by my team. It generates 7 types of time reports.

Regarding your issue, you can get a Time in Status Report (that shows how long an issue has been staying in each status ("development").

tisreport.jpg

Also, in the "Total" column you'll see the total time in all statuses. So you can monitor how long it takes your developers to resolve each defect.

Export reports as XLSX or CSV files for further analysis.

Hope you find it helpful.

There should be a way to get that info from Jira without any additional plugin.....

it's a basic metric.

Hello @Vaibhav Patki ,

For a ready built solution that offers great flexibility and details, our team at OBSS built Time in Status. It is available for Jira Server, Cloud and Data Center.

Time in Status mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status or assigned to each assignee. You can combine statuses in any way into consolidated columns to see metrics like Resolution TimeTicket Age, Cycle Time or Lead Time. You can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by issue fields you select. (For example see the total InProgress time per Epic, or average resolution time per issuetype).

Time in Status can display its reports and charts in its own reporting page, in dashboard gadgets and in a tab on issue view screens.

tisCloud_StatusDuration_LeadTime_with Estimates.png    Gadget_AverageStatusDurationByComponent.png

tisCloud_IssueView_Data.png    tisCloud_StatusDuration_LeadTime_Chart.png

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well.

Using Time in Status you can:

  • See how much time each issue spent on each status, assignee, user group and also see dates of status transitions. Sort and Filter according to report values.
  • Calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by issue fields you select. (For example see average InProgress time per project and per issuetype.)
  • Export your data as XLS, XLSX or CSV.
  • Access data via REST API. (for integrations)
  • Visualize data with various chart types.
  • See Time in Status reports on Jira Dashboard gadgets (released for cloud, server&DC gadget coming soon)

Hi @Vaibhav Patki ,

As an alternate solution, you can try Time to SLA.

Just define an SLA that starts when issue is created and ends when the issue is resolved. You need to set a goal you devs to meet and after this you can generate detailed reports showing the time it took your team to solve the defects, when they solved the defects, the start date, the status and so much more.

You can also tie this SLA to a working calendar so that you can get a more accurate picture.

Time to SLA works with Software, JSM and JWM projects.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Cheers,

Gökçe

Hi @Vaibhav Patki

You can try Status Time app developed by our team at Bloompeak. It provides reports on how much time passed in each status as well as status entry dates and status transition count.

Once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. That is, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days. It has various other reports like assignee time, status entry dates, average/sum reports(eg. average in progress time per project). And all these are available as gadgets on the dashboard too.

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try.

If you are looking for a free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Free. Hope it helps.
