How can I link an Epic when creating a new Issue?

I'm working in a next-gen project, and there is no "Link Epic" option when I'm creating a new issue.

The only fields I'm able to select are

  • Assignee
  • Attachment
  • Description
  • Flagged
  • Labels
  • Linked Issues
  • Sprint
  • Summary

How can I add Epic to this list so that I can link the epic at the same time as creating the issue, rather than having to go back to each issue later and link it?

Hi @Terry - In next-gen Jira Software, the Epic link field doesn't exist. There's currently a feature request open to have this implemented, which you can follow/vote on/comment on here.

Otherwise, there are two ways to have an issue assigned to an epic at the point of creation:

  • On the roadmap, you can hover over an epic and select + Add a child issue

  • On the board/backlog, if you have an epic selected in the epic filter, any issues you create will automatically be added to that epic.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Kevin. That doesn't really help but it answers my question.
