Feature request to assign subtasks to parent assignee

Kevin Chiu November 12, 2024

Hi there,

We heavily relying on subtasks to track all the bugs under a given ticket, and currently we're using automation to reassign subtasks from default assignee to parent's assignee upon subtask creation, but it's really a workaround and create a lot of unnecessary notifications to default assignee.

Is there a plan to support this feature from Jira? It's a very essential use case and we're very shocked that we need to implement customized automation rule to achieve it. Thank you.

Hello, Good day. I see your requirement is similar to the feature request: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-41281. Please vote and start watching this FR. Thanks

Hi @Kevin Chiu -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

In addition to the open feature suggestion that @Mohanraj Thangamuthu noted...

Have you considered disabling automatic / default assignees for your issues?  This would immediately stop the extra notifications, allowing your automation rule to perform the "inherited assignment" as the initial one (unless someone manually assigns the subtask during issue creation).

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Bill Sheboy

Thank you for your response. We thought about it, but we decided to still assign all new tickets to the project lead to avoid having too many unwatched issues on the board.
