Editing Priority

Hi Smart Community,

I have a quick question. So, I have a field (Priority) and I don't want anybody to edit it, I just want the field to be editable by the Project admins. Is something like this possible on Jira. I still want people to edit the Issue, but not that particular field.

Thanks,

Ismail.

Hi @Ismail Sanni

the one solution which spontaneously comes to my mind is the following:

  • Remove the Priority from the edit screen for this project/issuetype.
  • Introduce a new (global) transition, e.g. "Set Priority"
    • this transition doesn't change the status only the priority field
    • assign a screen to it which contains the priority field
    • add a condition to this transition so that only project admins may view it

What do you think about it? Do you need more pointers for that solution?

Cheers,
Matthias.

@Matthias Gaiser _K15t_

This is a nice solution, but will other people be able to see the priority field?

Thanks for your response,

Ismail

Yes, it will. You need to configure different screens in your screen scheme. Every screen scheme knows 3 operations:

  • Create: This screen will be shown for issue creation
  • Edit: This screen will be used for editing the issue
  • View: This screen will be used for viewing the issue

Cheers,
Matthias.
