It's my first time using Jira, and I deleted some initial child issues. Now the automatic numbering is off (e.g. i'm missing tasks 2-3 because i'm deleted them). How do I fix this?

Hi, @Tricia Aung

Welcome to the Atlassian Community

Unfortunately, if you deleted issue, there will be skipped numbers. It's an essential process of working with issues.
If you critically need all issues, one-by-one, you can:
- Remove project, delete from trash and then create it from scratch. Suitable, if you don't have many tasks and can recreate them.
OR:
- Make new project, and move issues from old project to new. They'll change keys and number id. It's suitable, if there are tasks, which can't be recreated later.

Hi @Tricia Aung , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your question.

Unfortunately, it won't be possible for you to reuse the issue keys for the issues that have been deleted. Is there a particular reason you want or need to have the numbers in order? Maybe you can do something with a custom field instead. Please can you explain what you're trying to achieve?

Thanks

I want the child issues to appear sequentially so it doesn't seem like issues are missing. The Epic number is 1 and the individual issues start at 4. 2 and 3 are missing because I deleted the issues when trying to figure out how to set up a board.

Hi @Tricia Aung , thanks for your feedback. If the key order is important, you can follow the instructions of the other person who replied here, @Evgenii and create another project.

Sorry for the trouble and best wishes.
