Bulk Import CSV - Different Values

Melanie Gremmer March 1, 2021

Hi all!

Is there a function in which you can bulk import a CSV to change a custom ticket field but the update has individual values for that one field.

TIA!

Hello @Melanie Gremmer ,

Thanks for reaching out, and updating an issue via CSV is covered in the Documentation  "Import data from a CSV file", noting the following:

Updating existing issues

To update existing issues, your CSV file needs to contain a column that maps to Issue Key. If an issue exists for a given key, it will be updated.

So the process would be to export the CSV of the existing issues that you wanted to modify, make the desired modifications to the custom field value in the CSV file, then re-import the data making sure that you have the issue key mapped for the update to occur.

Earl

Wonderful! Thank you.

So, I tried this, however - the Issue Key was not a field that was able to be mapped.  It's giving me the create issue mapping which doesn't have the Issue Key field.  I'm using a nex-gen-software board.

Hello @Melanie Gremmer ,

There are two locations to do CSV imports.  One is intended for less restrictive actions and intended for bulk issue creation operations, and the other is a more robust administrative action feature.

The first one is an end-user accessible option found under the issue navigator through the advanced search page by selecting the "Import from CSV" in the 3 dot drop-down menu, this one does not have the ability to Update issues, as it does not contain a connection to the required "Issue Key" mappable field.  This CSV import option is geared towards bulk creation, but as Bulk update operations have the ability to change system data it is restricted and requires administrator intervention to not change existing data in bulk.

The other location is an administrative import function that has all the options available to the Bulk create option mentioned above but includes additional access to global issue functions that are restricted to administrative permission including Bulk update operations,  this one is located under Settings > System > IMPORT AND EXPORT > External System Import > CSV,  and this is the one you will need to access to be able to do bulk issue updates via CSV and where the "Issue Key" mapping can be applied.

Regards,
Earl
