Hi!
I want that whenever team member enters story points, original estimate field should auto populate with relevant number of hours (as defined by us) or vice-versa. Right now we are entering value in both fields manually.
Story point 1 = 2h
2 = 4h and so on
Please help me in setting up this automation in Jira.
Thanks
Parveen
Why don't you just use the estimate fields directly?
Story points are not useful as a proxy for time, they are intended to be a way to size stories against each other so you can work out what the team can get done in a sprint.
If you're using them as hours, you're just over-complexifying your setup. Get your people to put in their hour estimates into the original estimate and flip your boards over to use that as the estimation statistic.
If we use only estimate in hours or so, will I get correct reports etc as we are doing it for the first time. I am thinking without entering story points I won't get accurate reports.
Even I was thinking that we should use estimate field directly as ultimate objective is to estimate time and track it and get perfect reports.
Hope not entering story points is also ok.
But is there way in Jira where it can be automatically be converted based on some formula or some automation ? Would be interested in knowing that as well.

Story points is not going to help you generate accurate reporting - you need your people to put good estimates in, it doesn't matter what format the estimate is in, you just need to train your people to do it right.
Putting it into one field and then translating it to another one is utterly pointless, it's actually likely to reduce the accuracy of your estimates.
If you want to be estimating in hours, doing it with the original estimate is by far the better way to do it. Story points don't have any of the functionality of the estimate fields. With the estimate, your people can log work (actual work done), or amend the estimate without losing sight of what they originally put in, and there's better reporting than "story points were/are" on it.

Thank you @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- for your views and suggestions. It's definitely going to help.
