How can we add Last Comment and Last User Updated Comment column to the issue filter gadget

I don't know about you guys but every single company and Role I have taken on, that involved configuring Jira, has come up against this issue.

"How can we add the Last Comment to the issue filter gadget"

Every time, the answer I give to this question is "sure you can do that, but you need an app that costs $500 a year to see the field". 

I really believe these fields should be part of standard Jira... Does anyone else keep running into this? Whats the most cost effective method to achieve it?

We can now do this for no cost with the new automation feature that is standard. Just create a custom Field called 'Last Comment' and set up the following automation.
