storage explodes after import

tombrus March 12, 2021

Hi,

We are considering moving from our JIRA-server to JIRA-cloud.

To test this I started with a freshly created JIRA cloud instance and did an import of our projects by uploading 2 zips: a database zip and a media zip. All seems to work well, great!

...now the storage pane shows a whopping 40G of disk space usage:

Screenshot 2021-03-12 at 09.20.43.png

  • I checked my zip files: 95M zipped (=169M unzipped)
  • I checked my source JIRA-server instance (v7.3.6): 1G disk space

So this is a 400 times explosion (wrt zips) and from the source system it is a 40 times explosion.

  • I am confused, can anybody shed some light?
  • How can I see details on disk usage?
  • How can I prune my disk-tree?
  • Did I do something wrong while importing?

Thanks!

Tom Brus

Hello Tom,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

Searching for similar cases and bugs related to this issue, we didn’t find anything that could explain this behavior.

The version you are using is from 2017 and that could be a cause for this issue with the migration.

With this said, our suggestion would be to use Jira Cloud Migration Assistant where you can easily migrate to Cloud and it will show the size that will be imported to your new site.

Can you please upgrade your Jira to 7.6 and use the migration assistant?

If you face any issues or have any other questions, please let us know.

Kind regards,
Angélica
