I want to change the workflow a bit such that before marking a story to Verified, person needs to fill some fields. What is the best way to do this?

Hi Debraj,

If you have a transition to status Verified, then you can add a screen to this transition (How to add a comment during a transition), and make the field you want to be required(How to make JIRA fields required in a workflow transition).
