See epics multiple projects

Klaas Behrens-Scholvin January 18, 2021

Dear community,

I have set up two projects to pre-edit and prioritize issues before moving them to our development team scrum board for delopment.

Therefore, I would like to have the same epics on my pre-editing board. How can I show epics in my pre-editing board and filter issues accordingly to them, without having to create two times the same epic in both projects?

Hi Klaas,

Boards will show whatever issues (including Epics) that meet the criteria of the board filter. So you can simply change the board filter to include the Epics you want to see on that board.

Thanks for the fast reply! Could you tell me, how to create this filter?

Probably below --> Board settings --> Edit filter shares?

Close - go to Board Settings > General and click on Edit filter query. Once on the filter itself, you can make the change.

But when I chose "Epic Name" as a filter, I can only chose one epic as filter and only the epics from my current project, not from the other team project. How can I show all epics from my team board below the "epics-button" on my backlog?

Can you share your filter and what you would like to see that it is not showing?

Here below "Epics" I would like to choose all the epics from the team board I am currently working on in my pre-editing board.

Or if that is not possible, create a filter for several epics from the team board.

Can you share the actual board filter?

Klaas Behrens-Scholvin January 18, 2021

Do you mean this one?

project = BIZ ORDER BY Rank ASC

I have to admit, I did not yet work with JQL...

Yes, that one.   :-)

So that filter should already show the Epics that are on the BIZ project.

Now you will need to add the statuses for the Epics to the columns on the board.

So while in Board Settings, go to Columns.

Then either add new columns for the Epic statuses and drag those statuses from the far right hand side to the appropriate column, OR drag the statuses from the far right hand side to any of the existing columns on the board.

The statuses will probably be something like: Epic - Open, Epic - In Progress and Epic - Closed.

But I actually also would like to see all epics from my other project called DIP. But only the epics, not the issues because I do not want to confuse the priorization on the team board. How do I do this?

project = BIZ or (project = DIP and issuetype = Epic) ORDER by Rank ASC
