Limitation of assignment to tasks

Надежда Баженова January 10, 2022

Hi!

Is it possible to limit the assignee user if the user is already working on a task?

For example, there is a user who is assigned to a task and the status of the task is "In progress". It is necessary that this user cannot be assigned to other tasks until the task with status "In progress" is transferred to a different status.

Are there any standard Jira tools for this case? Or are there any additional plugins / applications needed?

Hi @Надежда Баженова

No you can't do that with out of the box Jira functionalities. You need to have additional apps like scriptrunner, or JMWE or whatever app has a listener functionality. That is one solution (listeners).

Another solution would be to "close" the assign to user and assign issues ONLY via workflows. In that way, again with the use of an app, you can search for a JQL (issues assigned to a user), and if the results are greater e.g. than 2, then you can prohibit the assignment (validator).

Let me know if the above helps!
