Hi,
I am using Jira for the first time and I have created an Epic in my timeline and then created a Task Issue in my board.
When I click on the Issue in the board, how do I assign it to my epic?
I know I can do it from the timeline by creating a child issue then searching for it but that takes too long.
Thanks
When I click Epic an empty text box appears, if I start typing the Epics I have created do not appear. Should they appear automatically in this text box so I can select an Epic to attach the issue to. Thanks
Hello @Tariq
You can also click on the Add To Epic option in the breadcrumbs at the top of the screen.

Regarding your question about the "Epic" field you found, there is not a native field from Jira named simply "Epic". I suspect that is some sort of custom field that your administrator has added to your screen, and is not actually a selection list for specifying a parent Epic for the issue.
Can you tell us if you are using a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information will display at the bottom of the panel on the left.
Is this a Jira instance that you are administering, or one being administered by somebody else? Are you responsible for making customizations, or is that being done by another person?

Hi,
I am using Team Managed Software and it's a software project. I am administering the project and also responsible for making customisations. I added the Epic field as I thought this may show my epics so I could easily select one. I have seen a friend do it on his version of Jira.

For a Team Managed project it is not currently possible to have a field in the Details section that allows you to specify the parent Epic for an issue. The ways to connect an existing issue to an Epic are

On the right hand side of the Jira issue you've opened, you should see an Epic Link or Epic Name field - select the epic there. This will associate the Jira Issue with the Epic.
If you do not see the ability to select an Epic Name or Epic Link for the Task, your Jira admin may need to make the field visible.
