Is it possible to hide a field just for some users?

Hello, I have the need to show a field only to some users and to hide to other users. Is there a way to do it? I am thinking if it is possible to make the field visible just for a user group, and make it hidden for another user group, I tried to search the possible field configuration options but I didn't find anything. Is there any other solution to solve this need?

Your requirement can be met with ScriptRunner's Behaviours feature. It allows you to condition how fields in Jira behave by enabling dynamic changes based on user groups, actions, field selections and more. There is a demo video available here that shows how to configure a behaviour for your need.

Hi @Giulia Foglia ,

=> You can make the field to be hidden for a specific group of people or a User but it can be done only through the transition screen.

=> In transition screen you can add the field and make a group of people to execute the transition by using Conditions in the workflow.

Many thanks for your reply. In my case the fields to be hidden for some users is not part of the workflow, it's just a field visible on some issue types tab. Is your suggestion valid also in my case? Many thanks

Hi @Giulia Foglia ,

=> We can't restrict the Users to access the specific field. If you have added the specific fields on the separated Issue type then it can be only seen in that Issue type.

=> Eventhough if they have project access they can able to see the fields present in all the Issue types.

=> By using Issue security scheme you can restrict the Users to see the particular category tickets but not a specific field.

If you have Scriptrunner, you can write a behavior that will make the field hidden if the user is in a particular group.

Note that Scriptrunner behaviors only hide fields on the Create, Edit, and transition screens. So, if the field already has a value, it will be visible on the View screen to all users and a behavior can't hide it on the View screen.

Thanks, unfortunately we don't have ScriptRunner and for my number of users is not free and quite expensive :(
