In jira how to delete status from active workflow

I am like a newbie to Jira, If I want to delete status then I can delete from inactive workflow. But Is it possible to delete status from active workflow?

welcome to the Atlassian community!

you can delete a status from an active workflow just if there are not tickets in that status. If so, you need to move them in another status and then delete it.

Btw, an alert will appear during deletion at workflow level.

Make a copy of the active workflow.
Make sure there's no issue in the status you would like to delete.
Delete the status from the inactive workflow.
Add the inactive existing workflow to the workflow scheme linking it to the correct issue type(s).
Change the status mapping if needed.
Publish the workflow scheme and let Atlassian execute the remapping until finished.
