How to make resolution field optional? Edited

Hello! I can set resolution field to my tasks in Jira. But i can't make it optional. So when i try to create a new task i always should set Resolution field. But i want to set it only when my task goes to Done status.

How to make resolution field optional?

If you want the users to fill it in only when the issue is transitioned to Done, you need to make a screen for just that transition and include the Resolution field. You don't put that screen into the Screen Scheme for the project. Instead you attach the screen to the transitions to Done in your workflow.

When you edit the workflow and have the diagram displayed, you can click on the arrow representing the transition(s) to Done. The pop-up will give you an Edit button that will allow you to set a screen for that transition. Then whenever that transition is executed, that screen will pop-up.

Make sure you also remove the Resolution field from all the other screens that are part of your Screen Scheme for the project.

Someone has incorrectly set the resolution field as required in the field configuration. This is bad practice as you clearly do not want to set the resolution at the time you create an issue. Go to the field configuration for the project find the field and change it from being required.

Hi appsmobiliojivisata,

You don't, there is no way to set the Resolution field to not be required. Jira is hard coded for the Resolution field to always be required when it appears on a screen. Is it possible to change? Probably, but it is not supported and is likely to have negative impact to the instance. Do not make the Resolution optional.

The solution is to only place it on screens where it is acceptable for it to be required or use a different field. Cheers!

@Jack Thanks! But there is no button to make this field optional. I have Default Field Configuration - open it - find Resolution field - No "Required" or "Optional" button. What am i doing wrong?
