How do I make the fields change when selecting a different issue from Create Issue Window?

I think I'm mostly just tired, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to assign different field configurations to the each issue type in the Create Issue Window. I understand that you can select ones from the 'Configure Fields' drop down, but it still only gives me the ones for the Risk issue type and I don't want to custom select each time. Thanks!

You're not tired or going mad!

Field configurations and screens are not related to each other directly.  You don't associate a field configuration with a screen, that's not what they do.

(Note, this is all about company-managed projects, team-managed projects do not use the schemes I'm about to talk about)

Both screens and field configurations are linked to the issue type in the project, via schemes:

* A field configuration tells an issue  some stuff about its fields, mostly simple flags - hidden, mandatory and the renederer are the three I usually care about (although I tend not to hide fields, I usually get them off issues in different ways)
* A field configuration scheme tells a project what field configuration to use for its issue types
* A screen is a list of fields to show to a human when they do something with an issue
* A screen scheme tells an issue type what screen to use for the View, Edit or Create action (and has a default for any of those three you do not map)
* An issue type screen scheme tells a project what screen scheme to use for each of its issue types

So, although you can see they are all linked together by the project and issue type in your config, hopefully I've written that well enough for it to also show there's no direct relationship between screen and field config!
