I want to review a code snippet without having to scroll. I don't know of anyone that writes code in a 4 inch wide box. So why does Jira display issues so small, then comment is a bit smaller and when you add a code snippet it shrinks even more. There should be a way to pop out both comments and code snippets so you can read without scrolling or mashing up everything vertically. I should have to copy and past the code into a text editor to read it.
I thought maybe this was an issue with our environment. But this page I am currently editing this question on is wasting 50 percent of the screens real estate.
I added a screen shot to show all the whitespace. We should at least be able to read documentation at a standard letter width of around 8 inches.
Why sharing code snippets inside Jira? Can't you guys use BitBucket or GitHub? this is just out of curiosity.
We always comment by sharing the link to the source code but never include it inside Jira.
Like you mentioned the space allocated to the Description and Comments will require to scroll left/right or up/down.
Best,

We use Snowflake and the cloud UI doesn't tie source control. So if I need to share a small change to some SQL I post it with the CODE Snippet. I assume that is why Jira has the Code Snippet tool in the comment toolbox.
Images expand out, so it seems like a simple request to have code snippets do the same.
Thanks,
Phil

I don't think there is an option to expand it without scrolling.
Unfortunately it is the way UI is behaving.
All the best,
