Field 'customfield_10014' cannot be set. it is not on the appropriate screen, or unknown

Getting this error "field 'customfield_10014' cannot be set. it is not on the appropriate screen, or unknown" for Epic Link field when I try to remove an epic from the new feature issue type. The Epic Link field is definitely in every single screen (default, create, view, edit) for the issue type and the field absolutely exists. I looked at another issue type with the same Epic Link field and its working normally so I am probably missing something for this specific issue type.

Thank you!!

Hi @Claire Parchem -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Where are you seeing this error?  For example...

If on a screen/issue view page, would you please post images and explain the steps you were taking when the error occurred?

If in an automation for Jira rule, would you please post an image of the complete rule, images of relevant actions, and an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution?

Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill

Thanks Bill! Sorry for the lack of forethought here of course I should have included those things.

The issue is occurring on the View Screen when the ticket was rejected. User navigates to ticket and wants to remove epic link from the side bar, tries to delete the epic and receives this error.

What's interesting - I am able to work around the problem by re-opening the ticket and removing the epic. The field is only not working for this issue type when the issue is rejected/closed. However the field IS working for other issue types that it is affiliated with in the rejected/closed state. Maybe something wrong with the field configuration for the issue type?

Thanks again!

Thanks for that information, Claire.

This symptom seems related to the Atlassian work to sunset many of the Epic's fields, where "parent" takes the place of "Epic Link".

I recommend submitting a ticket to Atlassian Support for this one to take a look.  You can do that at this link, as you appear to be a site admin for a paid, Jira license: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/  Please provide them the link to this community page also for some context.

When you hear back from them, please post what you learn to benefit the community.  Thanks!

Hi Claire! Maybe three ways for review

1. Maybe you can review if "Epic link" is in edit screen.

You go to "Project settings" --> Issues --> Screens and find you screen scheme of that issue type.

Finally add "Epic Link" in edit screnn if not appear, and try again.

2. User dont have permission for edit issues

3. Status rejected / closed has some propertie for "not edit"

Regards
