I am trying to create a piechart and want it to be based on custom field of numeric type. I do not see that while creating chart from any gadget. Please advise.

Pie chart works with static fields. Text or numeric fields do not work, for example.
As @Roberto Miasack mentions, you won't be able to create that pie chart. We provide a commercial app called Dashboard Hub for Jira that allows you create a custom chart from JQL. You can select numeric or custom fields, aggregations to count, sum, get minimum/maximum values...
