Closed EPIC still showing up in dropdown when assigning epic to tickets

Issue:

We are seeing closed epics showing up in the dropdown when assigning epic link to tickets

  • epics that are status=closed and have a resolution do not show up (as expected)
  • epics that are status=closed and have no resolution do show up (not expected or desired)

Questions:

  • We do not have resolved state in our current workflow and see no other way to set resolution without adding an unwanted step to our workflow.
  • is it possible to automatically set resolution whenever transition changes to closed? or can the system treat unresolved but closed tickets the same as resolved?
  • is there any way to manually edit resolution without adding resolved stat to the workflow?

@Ivette Murphy, there is a special field called "Epic Status" which needs to be set.

If you look at an epic on the Epic Panel of a Backlog, you have the ability to mark an epic as Done.

Once you mark an epic as Done in this matter, the epic will no longer show as an option when setting the epic link for a story.

If you want to automate this process, I would add a post function to the transition leading into the Closed status for the epic workflow. This post function could automatically set the Epic status to Done.

Are you using a Classic JIRA project or Next Gen?

In your workflow transition to the Closed status you can also add a Post Function to automatically set the Resolution field in the issue.
