I have a custom field called requester's email. I use this in all of my Jira projects and made it available to my Jira Service Desk so when I move a ticket out of service desk into Jira Software I have it already filled in.
When using the widget it captures the reporter as an email address. test_user@email.com
I want to copy that from reporter to my custom field requester's email, but I haven't found the right automation or the best way to do it within a workflow.
Any suggestions?
You could either use an automation from within your workflow, or with jira automation.
For the workflow
For the jira automation
Hope the above helps!

The workflow didn't work. Reporter came across almost like a hexadecimal db address instead of customer name. I still need to look at the jira automation because I keep missing the actual field value change since it is not technically changing it is just never populated.

Please try the following via Jira Automation (given the fact that you want to capture the value via transition):
I've tested it and it was successful. You shouldn't have any problem with it.

Sorry for the delay. I finally got back to this and it worked like a charm. Thank you.
