I am about to upgrade from Jira Service Desk 3.2 to Jira 3.9. I have som add-ons that I have not renewed my licence. What happens with them? Can I upgrade them? do I lose compatibility?

It depends on the plugin, but generally they will stop working if you upgrade to a version released after license expiration. You will probably run into some compatibility issues.
