On JIRA Service Desk Customer Portal.

Can we get the Rich Text editing for Comments and Description
It supports rich text markup same as regular JIRA, but it has no toolbar.

The Description field used by the Service Desk when creating new issues have the Wiki Style Renderer under Service Desk -> Project settings -> Felds.

JIRA Service Desk customer portal have full styling support for all the JIRA markups. If you use markup it will be converted. There is just no preview button or something that you can use to see how it will look before saving. You would need to "prepare" a comment or description in normal JIRA comment and later paste it to Service Desk.

Official issue that you can vote on and follow - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDSERVER-1506

Yes it supports markup, but not known to regular customers. They will need to know and type in the markup them self. Such customers are not regular JIRA users.

Good to see others have also requested RTE in Customer portal. However this request is 3 years old. Any chance it will see the light of day in Service Desk?

This is a really Break on the Usability Side,

You Break the Behavior of a default Field (Description) by handling it differently from Issue View and Request Form

It is not intuitive for the Users, limits a lot the capabilities e.g. to load a nice Default Value template
