Is there a way of creating an automation that turns into a new custom field? I have one that turns into a label but I would like to know if its possible it turns into a field as labels usually fail.

If you are asking if you can use automation to create a custom field, then the answer is no this is not possible. You could certainly use automation to edit the issue and update the custom field as desired.
